Close encounters of the wallet kind

I nearly caved in and bought a new wallet today. My yellow leather wallet gave up being functional. Its zip broke completely after I tried to mend it with a pair of pliers and it would likely cost more to repair it than to buy a new one. My only alternative in the wardrobe was a black cross-over purse that unfortunately leaves black marks on my clothes whenever I use it – not ideal when wearing light coloured clothes.

Late last night, it occurred to me that perhaps I wasn’t thinking laterally about how I carry my belongings. Having mainly used large wallets/purses to store my loose change, notes, cards and a myriad of other things that bulked up my purse (a comb, miscellaneous receipts and even eye drops), I was blindsided into thinking this was the only way to do it.

After pausing for a moment, I remembered that a colleague of mine never uses a traditional wallet, but stores her cards and coins in a lovely little single pocket purse.

I realised I owned a similar retro cassette pouch and a soft leather card holder that I received as a gift so I quickly took them out of the drawer. Perfect! Minimalist and functional. I will trial this new way of storing money and cards and see how it goes.

How do you carry your belongings?
